The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter has been chosen as a finalist to compete
for a 2013 National Chapter Award from the National FFA Organization at the
upcoming 86th National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
The National Chapter program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters throughout
the country that successfully complete an annual set of required activities
that encourage members to grow as individuals, work as a team and serve others
in their communities.
Chapters that received three-star ratings during July 28-August 2, in
the competition are eligible to compete for the Model of Excellence Award, the
highest honor awarded to an FFA chapter by the National FFA Organization. Ten
FFA chapters will compete in a presentation and interview process for the top
honor at the 2013 National FFA Convention & Expo Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in
Louisville, Kentucky. The FFA chapter selected to receive the Model of
Excellence Award will be announced on stage during the convention.
Lynchburg-Clay FFA President, Julie Arnett and Committee Chairman, Marc
Blankenship, have been devoting numerous hours to developing their ten minute
presentation that will be given to a panel of judges to determine the final
placing. After the presentation, the judges will ask approximately five minutes
of questions pertaining to their chapter and the activities they are
highlighting in their presentation.
Other FFA chapters will compete in the Model of Innovation and
Outstanding Middle School categories for the National Chapter Award program. Chapters
eligible to compete in the Model of Innovation Award contest are ones that
demonstrate competency in doing new and innovative things or taking traditional
concepts and applying a creative twist. Thirty three-star chapters – 10 in each
division that includes student, chapter and community development- are selected
as finalists in the Model of Innovation award competition and will compete
through a presentation and interview process at convention.
Middle school chapters that receive a three-star rating are eligible to
compete for the Outstanding Middle School Chapter award. The winning chapter will be recognized as the top middle school FFA chapter in the nation and recognized on the main stage during convention.
All winning FFA chapters receive honors made possible by corporate
sponsor John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth, and
career success training through agricultural education to 557,318 student
members in grades 7-12 who belong to one of 7,498 local FFA chapters throughout
the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Congratulations to the Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter for being named in
the Top 10 Chapters in the Model of Excellence competition in the nation! Good
luck as they make their final preparations for their national presentation!
