Recently, the Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 92nd National FFA Convention. There were 21 members on the trip. On the first day members attended the Cinch Series Rodeo and learned about the various events that the participants competed in. On the second day, members attended the 2nd General Session where Hailee Waits and Braddon Young accepted the 3-Star National Chapter Award on behalf of our chapter. The 3-Star chapter award is based on activities the members participate in throughout the school year. This award is the highest rating a chapter can earn. Members also attended the trade show and had opportunities to interact with other FFA members, colleges, and ag businesses. On the third day members attended Fair Oaks Farm where they toured the Crop Exploration Building and the Swine and Dairy Cattle Adventures. In the swine tour, members viewed the hogs from each stage of the life cycle from farrowing, to feeder pigs, and the gestation process. In the dairy tour, members learned how the workers utilize a rotary platform to efficiently milk their cows. The members also learned how they care for the cows on daily basis and watched a cow have birth! Later that day, the FFA attended Purdue University and toured the Food Science Department.

On the 4th and final day, the chapter cheered for fellow members: Zach Proctor and Logan Simmons as they received their American FFA Degree! The American FFA degree is the highest degree you can earn. To earn the degree, you must productively earn and invest $10,000 with in their SAE project, volunteered at least 50 hours and be active in the FFA.

Zack Proctor is the son of Mark and Bridget Proctor. He is currently employed at Ag Pro of Wilmington. Logan Simmons is the son of Shane and Lora Simmons. He is currently raising a flock of show lambs and employed at Tractor Supply Co. of Hillsboro. Congratulations to Zack and Logan on achieving the American FFA Degree!

The chapter would like to thank our chaperones Robert Mootz and Amanda Young and the Mowrystown FFA Chapter for traveling with us.
