DODSONVILLE — The 1,000-point club at Lynchburg-Clay High School added another player to its ranks on Monday night, as senior Zoe Fittro was the latest to join the elite group as she reached the career milestone in LC’s 60-39 win over the visiting Goshen Lady Warriors.

Fittro’s milestone moment was made in dramatic fashion as she drove the basketball down court, went in the air to the hoop, and while twisting in the air, she made a one-handed basket for the two points while being fouled. Fittro ended up on the ground, lying there smiling as teammates pounced on her in celebration of the career moment with 6:22 left in the fourth frame.

The entire scenario of the 1,000th point ended up being a three-point play with Fittro finishing the play with a free throw, putting the Lady Mustangs ahead by 21 points at 48-27.

This season in 16 games Fittro has scored 246 points, averaging 15.4 points per game. Getting to her “grand total,” Fittro scored 152 points as a freshman (5.6 ppg.), 248 points as a sophomore (10.8 ppg.) and 356 points as a junior (14.2 ppg.).

Fittro now has 1,002 career points following a 21-point effort against Goshen, including 12 points in the first half. Fittro finished the game with five two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and she made two free throws in the game. She also had seven rebounds.

“It’s a big night for her. It’s super exciting for her to get it here in front of the home crowd and on this floor,” Lynchburg-Clay head coach Whitney Lewis said. “She’s worked hard for four years. She’s been a varsity player for four years, put in a lot of work in the gym, and I’m super happy to see that pay off for her.”

This was Fittro’s third straight 20-plus-point scoring game, as she scored 22 points vs. West Union and 21 points vs. Whiteoak.

Fittro’s career-high came nearly one year ago as a junior where she scored 31 points against Paint Valley on Jan. 28, 2019.

Following the game, Fittro spoke about the achievement with The Highland County Press.

“I wasn’t expecting to make that one, but I’m glad I did because I couldn’t make a free throw to save my life,” Fittro said of her milestone basket following the game. “I’m glad I did get it at home because I could have everyone here to watch. Getting my 1,000th is a big milestone, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the players I’ve played with, the people that are in my life and the coaches I’ve had.”
