On April 27, 2019 the Lynchburg-Clay Meats Evaluation team attended the State Meat Judging Contest.  Participants in the Meats Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE) delve into the science of meat. During this team event, students evaluated beef carcasses for quality and yield grade; identified various meat cuts and placed carcasses; and identified wholesale and/or retail cuts.  This event is ideal for students who are interested in exploring or pursuing career opportunities in the meat animal industry. Students were challenged to develop analytical skills, critical–thinking strategies and effective communication skills.  The team placed 16th in the state. Dawson Osborne was the high individual with a placing of 31st in the state.  Members of the team are Austin Leininger, Alana Miller, Dawson Osborne, and Brandon Young. The chapter would like to thank Mrs. Wendy Osborn and Miss Suzanne Kimball for coaching Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter’s team.
